PhotoAlive

For the photos you keep in a box

Bring old photos to life

Everyone has one: the photograph that never makes it into a frame because it matters too much. A grandmother in her twenties. A father you were too young to remember well. A wedding portrait folded into someone's wallet until the creases became part of the picture.

PhotoAlive takes that still photograph and gives it back some of what stillness took away. The eyes blink. The head turns a little. There is a smile you remember. Not a replacement for the person — a quiet few seconds of movement, rendered from the photo you already have.

What actually moves in the video

We animate the photograph you upload: natural blinking, a gentle smile, small head movement, hair shifting as if in a light breeze. You pick the mood from real samples — Gentle Motion for something calm, Smile & Wave for something joyful, Cinematic Memory for a slow, golden-camera drift — and choose how many takes you want.

The animation is built to protect the person's identity. The face in the video is the face in your photograph — we do not beautify, age-correct, or invent expressions the photo doesn't support. The result is three 5-second videos at 720p, delivered as MP4s you can keep, copy, and share wherever you like — keep the take that feels most like them.

Why the motion stays small

Photo animation went viral years ago, and some early results crept people out — exaggerated grins, strange head movements, a face that moved too much to feel like the person. That reaction shaped how we built PhotoAlive: the motion styles are capped at gentle, there is no talking, and nothing in the output is dramatic.

The goal is a clip that feels warm the moment it plays. If a result ever looks off to you — uncanny, or simply not like them — you can re-run it, and if it still isn't right, your payment is refunded automatically. You never keep a clip that unsettles you, and we never keep your money for one.

Three moments people bring photos to life for

A memorial or an anniversary: a few seconds of movement played quietly at the gathering, or shared afterward with family who couldn't come. The restrained style exists for exactly this moment.

A birthday in the family group chat: scanning an old print of a parent or grandparent and sending the animated clip alongside the cake photo. It takes two minutes, and it reliably steals the show.

The family archive itself: genealogy work is patient, and a moving clip attached to a scanned photograph gives the tree something a still image never quite does — a sense that this person was, briefly, right there.

Made for family archives, not for tricks

Old photos are usually the only visual record of a person. That's why we keep the motion respectful and the business model simple: no account, one payment per clip. Your photo is used only to create your video and is deleted automatically within 24 hours of upload; the video itself stays available on your private result page.

Only upload photographs you own or have permission to use. It's both a legal matter and the right thing to do — this tool is for honoring photos, not for surprising people in them.

Questions people actually ask

Can any old photo be brought to life?

Most can. The photo needs one visible face; a scan or a clear photo of a print works. Heavily damaged or very blurry faces will animate, but the result follows the quality of the source.

Will it really look like the person?

The video is generated directly from the photograph, so the face is theirs. Motion is intentionally small — blinking, a smile, a slight turn — which keeps the likeness intact.

Is this appropriate for photos of people who have passed away?

Many people use it exactly for that, and it's why the motion styles are restrained. It's a personal choice; the result is a few seconds of movement, not a recreation of the person.

Can I animate more than one photo of the same person?

Yes — each order animates one photo into one clip, and you can order again with another photograph anytime. For group photos, crop to one face before uploading for the best result.
